On the ground in Tasmania
Tasmania has a proud and long military tradition and a substantial ex-service community across the state. Anglesea Barracks in Hobart is the oldest continuously occupied military establishment in Australia, and the Army Reserve and Navy maintain a presence around Hobart and the north. Many veterans settle in Tasmania after service, drawn by the lifestyle and the strong sense of community, and a great many carry service-related conditions that are never claimed, or are lodged and rejected on evidence that was never properly built.

State Entitlements
Tasmanian Gold Card concessions
A Veteran Gold Card can open up more than DVA-funded treatment. Tasmania offers free Metro travel for TPI and EDA holders, a 100% motor tax rebate for TPI veterans, registration and insurance concessions, a 30% council rates remission and a TasWater rebate, administered by the Tasmanian Government, Metro Tasmania and local councils and separate from your DVA entitlements. Several of the highest value concessions are tied to a TPI or EDA assessment rather than the card alone.

Any new compensation or rehabilitation claim lodged from 1 July 2026 is decided under the single improved MRCA. Claims you lodged before that date continue under the Act that applied when you lodged them.
A rejection is not the end of the road. It is a common part of the process. DVA decisions can be reviewed and appealed through VRB reviews, and we regularly act on matters that were previously knocked back.
